Where it came from
Tournament Grounds was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set drew heavily from Arthurian legend and classic fairy tales, and this land card was specifically designed to support the set's tribal focus on Knights. Its mechanical utility allows it to produce mana specifically for casting Knight spells or equipping them, reflecting the thematic emphasis on the chivalric orders central to the plane of Eldraine.
The card features artwork by Jonas De Ro, who created a sweeping, atmospheric landscape consistent with the high-fantasy aesthetic of the set. The design was received as a functional staple for dedicated Knight-themed decks in the Standard and Brawl formats of the time. By focusing on a specific creature type, the card serves as a narrative and mechanical anchor for players looking to construct a thematic deck centered on the realm's iconic protectors.
