What it does
Target opponent reveals their hand. You choose a card from it. That player discards that card, then discards a card at random.
The same hymns Tourach sang to praise the Ebon Praetor would later be adapted to glorify Tourach himself.

Where it came from
Tourach's Canticle was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to evoke the legacy of Tourach, a legendary figure from the game's earliest lore who serves as the patron of the Order of the Ebon Hand. By bringing this character into the context of modern card mechanics, the designers aimed to satisfy long-time players seeking a thematic connection to the game's deep history while providing a functional black-aligned discard effect.
The artwork for this specific iteration was illustrated by Seb McKinnon. Known for his atmospheric and ethereal style, McKinnon sought to capture the dark, ritualistic essence associated with Tourach. The illustration was received with significant acclaim by the community, often cited as a standout piece in the set for its moody, evocative depiction of cultish fervor, which aligns with the card’s strategic role of depleting an opponent’s resources.
