Where it came from
Track Down was released in 2020 as part of the Core Set 2021 for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was designed to serve as an entry point for new players while providing a balanced environment for established formats, featuring a mix of reprints and new cards intended to showcase the thematic variety of the multiverse. The card was created as a low-cost green sorcery, designed to provide players with utility by allowing them to look at the top four cards of their library and place a creature or land card into their hand, emphasizing the color's thematic focus on nature and resource acquisition.
The artwork for the card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the essence of a scout tracking prey through a dense, sun-dappled forest. The visual design focuses on the tactile sensation of the hunt, aligning with the card's mechanical function of finding specific resources within a player's library. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, role-filling common, noted by players for its efficiency in Limited formats where card selection can often determine the outcome of a match.
