Where it came from
Traverse Eternity was released as part of the 2023 Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond Doctor Who set, a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and the BBC. This card belongs to the 'Timey-Wimey' Commander deck, designed to capture the non-linear, multi-era nature of the series' protagonist. The card serves as a mechanical representation of the Doctor's ability to manipulate time and navigate between past and future iterations.
The artwork was created by illustrator Matt Stewart, who sought to capture the ethereal, sweeping scope of time travel. The visual design emphasizes the cosmic scale of the show, utilizing motifs often associated with the TARDIS and temporal rifts. Upon release, the set was well-received by both Magic players and Doctor Who fans for its thematic integration of the show's lore into traditional gameplay mechanics.
