Where it came from
Treasure Map // Treasure Cove was originally released in the 2017 set Ixalan as a rare enchantment. The card features a double-faced design that allows players to transform it into a land card once specific criteria are met, reflecting the thematic progression of explorers uncovering a hidden location. The artwork for this original version was created by Cliff Childs, who aimed to evoke a classic, weathered cartographic aesthetic that grounded the card in the set's swashbuckling, archaeological exploration theme.
This particular printing, collector number 391, belongs to the 2023 release The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, specifically as part of the Special Guests subset. These cards were chosen to represent iconic artifacts and landmarks from the game's history, reimagined with new illustrative styles that align with the aesthetic of the cavernous, subterranean world of Orazca. The design remains mechanically identical to the original, maintaining its role as a versatile utility card that rewards patient resource management.
