Where it came from
Treasure Nabber was introduced as part of the Commander Masters set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2023. This card serves as a thematic reprint within the Commander format, originally debuting in the 2018 Commander preconstructed decks. It was designed to leverage the political and chaotic nature of multiplayer Magic: The Gathering, specifically punishing opponents who rely on mana rocks or artifacts to ramp their game plan forward.
The card's mechanics were crafted to encourage aggressive interaction, allowing players to briefly borrow artifacts from their opponents during each player's turn. The illustration, created by artist Magali Villeneuve, captures the frantic energy of a scavenger attempting to liberate treasures from their rightful owners. Upon its introduction, the card was well-received by players who enjoy disruptive, high-variance gameplay, becoming a staple tool for red-aligned decks seeking to keep opponents on edge.
