Where it came from
Treasure Nabber was introduced as part of the Commander 2018 set, a release designed to expand the multiplayer format for Magic: The Gathering. As a red card within the 'Nature's Vengeance' deck, it was engineered to interact with the game's artifact-heavy environment, specifically targeting opponents who utilize mana rocks or equipment by allowing the player to temporarily seize control of these items.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who captured the creature's opportunistic nature through a dynamic, goblin-like design. Upon its release, the card was received as a versatile tool for chaotic, interactive gameplay. Players valued it for its ability to punish opponents for deploying powerful artifacts, fitting into the 'political' style of play that Commander sets often aim to encourage.
