Provenance

Where it came from

Trenchpost was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. As a land card with the 'Locus' subtype, it was designed to integrate into a legacy archetype centered around the cloudpost engine, providing players with a utility land that rewards the deployment of multiple Locus cards to accelerate mana production in colorless-focused decks.

The card’s visual aesthetic follows the industrial, grim art style associated with the Eldrazi-themed content of the set. Illustrators for this release aimed to evoke a sense of desolate, subterranean machinery, fitting the card's function as a structural resource within the game's expansive mechanical ecosystem. Upon release, it was received as a significant support piece for existing Locus strategies in non-rotating formats.
