Where it came from
Tributary Instructor is a card featured in The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander set, released by Wizards of the Coast in late 2023. As part of the expansion exploring the subterranean world beneath the plane of Ixalan, this card was designed to support the set's thematic focus on prehistoric discovery and tribal synergy within the Commander multiplayer format.
The artwork, rendered by artist Jason Rainville, captures the scholarly and mystical aesthetic consistent with the set's portrayal of subterranean explorers. The card mechanics were crafted to encourage strategic board presence, fitting into the broader design philosophy of providing Commander-specific tools that reward players for their existing board state and resource management.
