What it does

Domain — Until end of turn, creatures you control gain trample and get +1/+1 for each basic land type among lands you control.

Ground into the footprints of the ravaging herd were clumps of salt from Benalia, moss from Llanowar, dust from Hurloon, and ash from as far as Urborg.

Provenance

Where it came from

Tromp the Domains was released in 2006 as part of the Time Spiral expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed to evoke nostalgia by referencing mechanics and themes from the game's earliest years, and the domain mechanic—which rewards players for controlling lands with different basic land types—was a deliberate callback to the 2000 Invasion block. As a common card, it was crafted to provide accessible support for multicolor decks in the Limited play environment.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Dan Scott, who has contributed art to the game for many years. His depiction of a massive, charging beast was intended to capture the raw, overwhelming power associated with the domain effect, which grows in strength as the player controls more types of basic lands. The piece was well-received by players for its dynamic composition and for effectively conveying the card's function as a late-game finisher.
