Where it came from
True Identity was released in 2024 as part of the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander set, a collection themed around a high-profile investigation within the Ravnica plane. The card was designed to reflect the set's central 'investigator' mechanics, allowing players to manipulate the battlefield by disguising their creatures and creating tokens that mirror the investigative flavor of the mystery genre.
The card features artwork that emphasizes the aesthetic of a classic whodunit, utilizing the noir-inspired visual language established for the Ravnica expansion. While the card is a functional piece of gameplay design meant to support the 'Cloak' and 'Manifest' mechanics, it was received as a versatile tool for blue-aligned decks, praised for its ability to hide key threats in plain sight during complex board states.
