Provenance

Where it came from

The Truth or Consequences card is part of the Doctor Who CCG (Collectible Card Game) released by Iron Crown Enterprises in 1996. Created to capitalize on the enduring popularity of the BBC science fiction series, the set aimed to immerse players in the show's lore, spanning from the classic era through the 1996 television movie. The game design utilized a unique system where players could navigate through space and time, and it was generally well-received by fans for its attention to detail and faithfulness to the source material's complex continuity.

The artwork and graphic design of the set reflected the aesthetic sensibilities of the mid-1990s, blending high-contrast photography with illustrative elements to ground the game in the visual language of the franchise. Designers sought to create a balance between mechanical functionality and narrative engagement, ensuring that even minor characters and plot points like Truth or Consequences were represented with thematic accuracy. Although the game experienced a short print run due to licensing shifts, it remains a notable piece of Doctor Who merchandise that captured a specific moment in the show's transition period.
