Where it came from
Truth or Dare was released as part of the 2021 Mystery Booster: Convention Edition playtest cards, a collection designed to mimic the aesthetic of internal R&D test prints. These cards were distributed exclusively within the drafting experience at major hobby conventions to provide players with a chaotic, experimental glimpse into potential design mechanics that never reached formal finalization.
The card’s design, typical of the playtest series, features a stark, unadorned layout intended to focus entirely on mechanical function rather than thematic art or flavor. By stripping away standard set markers, the designers at Wizards of the Coast invited players to participate in a high-stakes, meta-commentary on the game's mechanics, resulting in a card that remains a curiosity for collectors interested in the iterative process of game development.
