Where it came from
Tundra is a foundational land card in Magic: The Gathering, first appearing in the 1993 Alpha set. This specific version, numbered 577, hails from the 30th Anniversary Edition released in 2022. This set was created as a commemorative, non-tournament-legal celebration of the game's history, featuring faithful reprints of cards from the original base sets, updated with a modern card frame and a commemorative back design.
The original card illustration was created by artist Quinton Hoover, known for a soft, ethereal style that defined the aesthetic of early Magic expansions. Tundra represents the intersection of plains and islands, mechanically providing access to two different mana colors. While the 30th Anniversary Edition was met with polarized reactions due to its limited availability and premium pricing, it remains a tangible tribute to the influential design work that shaped the collectible card game genre.
