Where it came from
Tusk and Whiskers is a card from the 2022 Magic: The Gathering expansion Unfinity, a set celebrated for its science-fiction carnival theme and the return of 'un-set' mechanics. Released by Wizards of the Coast, this card fits within the set's playful, rule-bending aesthetic designed to embrace humor and novelty in gameplay. It was created as part of an effort to integrate the whimsical silver-bordered card tradition into the broader Magic ecosystem while maintaining a distinct visual identity.
The art and design were crafted to evoke the lighthearted atmosphere of an intergalactic amusement park, featuring a charming juxtaposition of a walrus and a cat. The illustration process aimed to capture the surreal nature of the set, balancing the fantastical elements of the game with an accessible, vibrant style. Upon release, the card was received as a delightful addition for players interested in the creative, non-traditional side of the game's expansive lore.
