Where it came from
The Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set was released in 1996 by Fleer/SkyBox as an introductory product designed to teach new players the mechanics of the Marvel OverPower collectible card game. These cards, often referred to as front cards, were created to serve as visual aids and instructional guides, simplifying the complex rules of the primary game for a broader audience.
The design of these instructional cards featured the iconic Marvel character artwork that defined the OverPower era, balancing utilitarian text with the aesthetic appeal of the original comic book illustrations. While they were intended to be functional rather than collectable, the cards remain a distinct artifact of the 1990s trading card boom, representing the industry's attempt to bridge the gap between casual comic fans and the growing hobby of competitive card gaming.
