Where it came from
The Speedy card, numbered 45, is part of the 1995 Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set produced by Fleer. These cards were designed to serve as a trading card game entry point, introducing younger players to the Marvel Universe through a simplified ruleset that utilized characters from the popular 1990s animated series and comics. The set was released during a period of peak interest in Marvel collectibles, aiming to bridge the gap between traditional static trading cards and the emerging complexity of collectible card games.
The aesthetic of the set relied heavily on the distinct, vibrant house style established by Marvel's animation and comic divisions at the time. Illustrators for the set focused on high-action poses that emphasized the unique abilities of each character. While the Jumpstart line was intended to be an accessible, entry-level product, it is now primarily viewed by hobbyists as a nostalgic artifact of mid-90s marketing strategies, appreciated more for its specific place in the history of Marvel-themed gaming than for its strategic depth.
