Twilight Prophet

Twilight Prophet was originally printed as a rare card in the 2018 expansion Rivals of Ixalan. It was subsequently released as a promotional version, identified by the collector number 88s, as part of the set's promotional card offerings provided to retailers and players during launch events. The card depicts a member of the Legion of Dusk, the vampire faction of the Ixalan plane, reflecting the set’s exploration of Mesoamerican-inspired aesthetics and Gothic colonial themes.

The card was illustrated by Volkan Baga, who utilized a dramatic, low-angle perspective to emphasize the prophet's dark, ritualistic authority. The design serves to illustrate the faction's central mechanic of 'ascend,' which rewards players for controlling a specific number of permanents. Upon its release, the card was widely discussed in competitive Magic: The Gathering circles for its high utility in Commander and other casual formats, where its ability to drain life while providing card advantage became a distinct hallmark of the Orzhov color identity.
