Where it came from
Twining Twins, a split card from the Wilds of Eldraine set released in 2023, reflects the thematic focus on fairy tale tropes and the dual-natured storytelling characteristic of the Eldraine plane. The card features a primary creature spell and an instant adventure, designed to emphasize the shifting, versatile magic system that defines the set's mechanical identity.
The artwork, illustrated by Justine Mara Andersen, draws upon the whimsical yet slightly unsettling folklore aesthetic of the Eldraine narrative. The design intent was to capture the duality of the twin characters, balancing their visual cohesion with the mechanical separation of their two distinct gameplay functions, a challenge typical of the split-card design process within Magic: The Gathering.
