Tymna the Weaver

Tymna the Weaver was originally introduced in the 2016 Commander product line, but this specific iteration comes from the 2020 Commander Legends set, which marked the first time the Commander format received a dedicated booster-draft expansion. The character is portrayed as a member of the Orzhov Syndicate, reflecting the high-stakes, ecclesiastical, and often cutthroat nature of that Ravnican guild. Mechanically, the card was designed to facilitate aggressive play patterns by rewarding players with card draw for combat damage, a departure from the more reactive strategies typically associated with the Orzhov color identity.

The art for this version was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a renowned fantasy artist known for her ability to capture intricate textures and regal, yet ominous, character expressions. Villeneuve aimed to emphasize Tymna's role as a manipulator of life and death, utilizing lighting and composition to suggest her influence over the battlefield. Upon its release, the card quickly became a staple in competitive Commander circles due to its efficiency as a draw engine and its ability to pair with other partners, cementing its status as one of the most powerful utility commanders in the format.
