Umbral Collar Zealot

The Umbral Collar Zealot was released as part of the Edge of Eternities expansion, a set centered on the conceptual battle between fading realities and encroaching voids. Designers intended for this card to serve as a pivotal tactical unit, specifically meant to represent the aesthetic of corruption within the set’s central lore. The illustration focuses on the strained, heavy metal ornamentation of the figure, aiming to convey a sense of forced obedience that defines the Zealot’s narrative role.

Upon its introduction, the card received moderate attention from competitive players due to its unique mechanics that traded long-term board presence for immediate, high-impact disruption. Art critics within the hobby praised the atmospheric lighting choices of the illustrator, noting how the muted color palette helped ground the fantastical design in a more somber, tactile reality. It remains a representative example of the darker visual direction taken by the art team during this production phase.
