Where it came from
Unending Whisper was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Tarkir: Dragonstorm. The card draws upon the lore of the Tarkir plane, specifically the re-imagining of its timeline where the powerful dragonlords ascended to total dominance. It reflects the dark, atmospheric nature of the narrative, emphasizing the theme of ancient, lingering secrets surfacing within the harsh, draconic-dominated environment.
The visual design of the card captures the eerie and lingering nature of its namesake. Illustrators for the set were tasked with conveying the weight of the plane's history and the pervasive influence of its draconic rulers. Upon its release, the card was noted by players for its thematic integration into the set's mechanical identity, serving as a representation of the pervasive and inescapable influence inherent to the world's new, dragon-centric power structure.
