What it does
Destroy target creature. Its controller manifests dread. (That player looks at the top two cards of their library, then puts one onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature and the other into their graveyard. If it's a creature card, it can be turned face up any time for its mana cost.)

Where it came from
Unwanted Remake was released in 2024 as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set draws heavy inspiration from 1980s horror tropes and urban legends, situating players within a malevolent, ever-shifting haunted house. This card functions mechanically as a removal spell, reflecting the theme of grotesque transformations and the sinister consequences of meddling with the physical forms of victims within the House.
The card’s illustration was handled by artist Greg Staples, whose work often leans into visceral, dark fantasy aesthetics. Staples sought to capture the visceral unease of body horror, focusing on the distorted, uncanny nature of the transformation portrayed. Upon its release, the card was noted by players for its thematic resonance with classic horror cinema, particularly the subgenre of body-swap and mutation films, effectively anchoring the set's unsettling tone through its grim visual storytelling.
