Where it came from
Urza's Command was released in the 2022 expansion The Brothers' War, a set designed to revisit the central conflict of Magic: The Gathering's lore: the war between the artificer brothers Urza and Mishra. This card represents the culmination of Urza's tactical reach during the conflict, functioning as a modal spell that allows players to select multiple powerful artifacts-themed effects. It serves as a narrative homage to the character's ingenuity and his mastery over mechanical warfare.
The artwork was created by illustrator Johannes Voss, who focused on capturing the grand, imposing scale of Urza's reach. The design intentionally evokes a sense of arcane authority, depicting Urza amidst his complex machines. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its versatility in competitive formats, where its ability to adapt to different board states reflects the strategic complexity inherent to the character's legacy.
