Where it came from
Urza's Command was released as part of the 2022 expansion The Brothers' War, a set designed to revisit the central conflict of Magic: The Gathering's early lore. The card serves as a mechanical homage to the titular character, Urza, representing his strategic versatility and mastery of artifacts through a modal spell format. This specific promo version, identified by collector number 70s, features unique stylized border art that sets it apart from the standard set release, emphasizing the artifact-heavy themes of the expansion.
The card was designed to capture the essence of Urza's influence on the game's setting, offering players multiple utility options in a single casting. It was developed to integrate with artifact-centric decks, a nod to the mechanical focus of the original Antiquities set. As a promotional offering, this iteration was distributed to emphasize the importance of the Brothers' War narrative, and it has been received by collectors as a distinct piece of art that highlights the sophisticated technological aesthetic associated with the character's legacy.
