Urza's Rage // Urza's Rage

Urza's Rage was originally released in the 2000 Invasion expansion, serving as a powerful red sorcery that defined gameplay due to its 'kicker' mechanic and inability to be countered. The card represents Urza, one of the most significant figures in the lore of Magic: The Gathering, embodying his destructive power during the Phyrexian Invasion. Its inclusion in the Strixhaven Art Series serves as a retrospective tribute, stripping away the rules text to showcase the full-frame artwork in a collector-focused format.

The art for this version is credited to Volkan Baga, who updated the iconic visual of Urza wielding his immense magical energy. Baga’s aesthetic goal was to maintain the sense of grand, mythic scale established by the original card while utilizing modern digital painting techniques to enhance lighting and texture. These Art Series cards were distributed as a special component within Strixhaven: School of Mages set boosters, designed primarily for enthusiasts and collectors looking to display the game's high-fantasy illustrations without the distraction of game mechanics.
