Valakut Awakening // Valakut Stoneforge

Valakut Awakening // Valakut Stoneforge was originally released in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering expansion Zendikar Rising. As a double-faced card, it reflects the set's mechanical focus on modal flexibility, allowing players to choose between a card-filtering spell or a red mana source. It draws thematic inspiration from the iconic Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, a legendary mountain from the plane of Zendikar that has been a staple of red-aligned strategies since the original Zendikar block.

The card’s art was illustrated by Johannes Voss, who utilized the set's high-fantasy aesthetic to evoke a sense of geological power and volcanic awakening. The version featured in 'The List' is a special reprinting that maintains the original design while utilizing a distinct symbol to mark its inclusion in this curated series of supplemental cards. It has been well received by competitive players for its utility in smoothing out card draws and managing resource distribution in various Constructed formats.
