Provenance

Where it came from

Vampire Sovereign was originally released in the Core Set 2019 expansion, designed by Wizards of the Coast as a powerful uncommon creature card intended to bolster the tribal vampire theme in the Limited format. Its mechanics focus on the life-drain archetype prevalent in Black-aligned sets, allowing players to swing board states by gaining life while simultaneously reducing an opponent's total.

The Double Masters 2022 version, numbered 97, serves as a high-quality reprint that features updated card frames and premium production standards typical of the Masters series. This edition remains a staple for collectors interested in the aesthetic history of vampire-themed cards, reflecting the consistent artistic direction that defines the gothic horror sub-genre within Magic: The Gathering.
