Vandalblast

Vandalblast was originally printed in the Return to Ravnica expansion in 2012, but this specific iteration appeared in the 2015 Commander set. As a sorcery that destroys a single target artifact or, if overloaded, every artifact an opponent controls, it became a staple card in the Commander format due to its high utility in multiplayer environments. The card was designed to offer players a flexible board-wipe option that scales effectively as the game progresses and the threat of opposing artifacts grows.

The artwork for this version was provided by Seb McKinnon, a prominent figure in Magic: The Gathering illustration known for his surreal, evocative, and melancholic aesthetic. In this piece, McKinnon moves away from his usual atmospheric gloom to depict the raw, chaotic energy of destruction, utilizing his signature style to visualize the mechanical ruin caused by the spell. The design was well-received by the player base for its thematic cohesion and the distinct visual identity it brought to the utility-heavy Commander product line.
