Vault of Champions

Vault of Champions was released in 2020 as part of the Commander Legends expansion, the first set designed specifically for the Commander multiplayer format. As one of the 'crowd land' cycle, it was crafted to facilitate efficient mana fixing in multiplayer games, where the land provides both white and black mana provided an opponent controls at least two creatures.

The card features the evocative artistry of Cliff Childs, who depicted the vault as a sweeping, dramatic landscape of stone and shadow. The design reflects the set's intent to reward social interaction and table politics, moving away from purely individual power toward mechanics that scale with the number of participants. It was well-received by the player base as a staple utility land for Orzhov-aligned Commander decks.
