Where it came from
Vazal, the Compleat is a non-tournament-legal playtest card released as part of the Mystery Booster series in 2021. These cards were designed by Wizards of the Coast developers as a look into the 'R&D' process, intended to be humorous, experimental, or mechanically unconventional designs that would not fit into a standard Magic: The Gathering release.
The card features the signature aesthetic of the Mystery Booster playtest cards, characterized by a stark, minimalist frame and a hand-written aesthetic, typically accompanied by internal design notes from the creator. The design explores the 'Compleat' mechanic within the lore of the Phyrexians, serving as a meta-commentary on the evolution of Magic’s color-pie restrictions and card complexity.
