Where it came from
Vazi, Keen Negotiator was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set. This set was designed to explore the Art Deco-inspired, organized-crime-run metropolis of New Capenna, a plane within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The character serves as a representative of the Riveteers, one of the five crime families that dominate the city's infrastructure and labor sectors.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured Vazi's sharp, industrial-fantasy aesthetic consistent with the Riveteers' theme of strength and craftsmanship. Designed as a legendary creature capable of serving as a Commander, the card focuses on a 'group hug' political playstyle, rewarding players for distributing Treasure tokens among their opponents to facilitate deals and complex board interactions.
