Where it came from
Veiled Ascension was introduced as part of the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander set in early 2024. As a top-down design inspired by the plane of Ravnica, the card explores the setting’s overarching narrative of mystery and political intrigue. Its design reflects the set's focus on investigative gameplay, mechanically representing a shift in power dynamics within the high-stakes environment of the Karlov Manor investigation.
The card’s illustration was crafted to evoke the gothic and noir-inspired aesthetic signature to the Ravnica plane. By centering on the theme of ascension, the visual direction aimed to emphasize the clandestine transformations occurring under the surface of the manor’s society. Upon its release, it was integrated into the Commander format’s deep card pool, where it serves as a utility piece for decks focusing on enchantment-based strategies and board presence.
