Veiled Crocodile

The Veiled Crocodile was released in 1998 as part of Urza's Saga, a seminal expansion set for Magic: The Gathering that centers on the narrative of the artificer Urza. This set was a pivotal moment in the game's history, introducing mechanics like enchantments that could be played as creatures and complex cycle interactions. The card itself reflects the high-fantasy aesthetic of the late 1990s, where the design team sought to expand the game's creature roster with increasingly diverse and challenging mechanics to deepen strategic gameplay.

The artwork was illustrated by rk post, a prominent artist who contributed heavily to the visual identity of Magic: The Gathering during this era. His distinctive, often surreal style helped define the look of many cards throughout the late 90s and early 2000s. The illustration of the Veiled Crocodile captures a sense of lurking mystery, consistent with the card's ability to remain hidden until a specific game state is triggered. It is regarded by collectors as a classic example of the dark, intricate artistic direction that characterized the Urza block.
