Where it came from
Viewpoint Synchronization was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond: Assassin's Creed' set in 2024. This collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Ubisoft brought the narrative elements of the video game franchise into the collectible card game format. The card mechanically represents the iconic mechanic from the series where players climb to high vantage points to reveal sections of the game map, translated here into a card that explores the library to gain information and resources.
The artwork for this card features a stylistic interpretation of the series' protagonist performing the 'Leap of Faith' from a high structure. The design prioritizes the visual language of the Assassin's Creed series, emphasizing the architectural scale and the historical settings central to the games. Upon its release, the card was noted by players for its thematic resonance with the source material, effectively blending the game's stealth and exploration motifs with the mechanical flow of Magic: The Gathering.
