Vildin-Pack Outcast // Dronepack Kindred

Vildin-Pack Outcast and its flip-side, Dronepack Kindred, were released in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering set Eldritch Moon. As part of the Shadows over Innistrad block, this card reflects the set's central theme of cosmic horror, where the iconic gothic atmosphere of the plane of Innistrad is corrupted by the arrival of the Eldrazi titan Emrakul. The double-faced card mechanic was utilized here to represent the physical transformation of the werewolf inhabitants as they are warped by the influence of the Eldrazi.

The artwork for this card was created by Aleksi Briclot, a prolific artist in the trading card game community known for his distinct, atmospheric style. Briclot's design emphasizes the jarring transition from a traditional lycanthropic creature to a bizarre, tentacled monstrosity, effectively capturing the 'body horror' aesthetic that Wizards of the Coast sought to highlight during this expansion. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional tool for Limited play, appreciated by players for its ability to bridge the gap between aggressive red strategies and the set's broader structural motifs.
