Where it came from
Vision Skeins was released in 2006 as part of the Dissension expansion, the third and final set in the Ravnica: City of Guilds block for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to reflect the chaotic, psychic nature of the Izzet League, a guild defined by its obsession with elemental magic and reckless experimentation. As a card-draw spell, it was intended to simulate the overwhelming and often destabilizing influx of information that characterizes the guild's pursuit of arcane knowledge.
The artwork was illustrated by Steve Argyle, who captured the frenetic energy of Ravnica by depicting swirling, abstract psychic currents.
