Where it came from
Visions of Phyrexia was released in 2022 as part of The Brothers' War set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Mechanically, the card allows players to exile the top card of their library each turn and play it, reflecting the invasive and assimilating nature of the Phyrexians, the game's primary antagonists. This promo version, numbered 156p, features unique borderless art that highlights the terrifying, biomechanical aesthetic central to the faction's visual identity.
The art was created to evoke the chilling transformation of the plane of Phyrexia. By utilizing a distinct, stylized approach, the illustrators sought to capture the blend of organic life and cold machinery that defines the lore of the set. The card was well-received by players for its powerful utility in red-aligned decks and its atmospheric contribution to the ongoing narrative arc involving the Phyrexian invasion of the Magic multiverse.
