Where it came from
Vivi Ornitier first appeared in the 2000 role-playing game Final Fantasy IX, designed by character artist Tetsuya Nomura. As a Black Mage, Vivi was created to embody the central themes of the game, specifically the exploration of existence, mortality, and what it means to possess a soul. The character's iconic silhouette, characterized by a wide-brimmed hat and glowing yellow eyes set within a darkened face, was intended to evoke a sense of melancholy and innocence that contrasted with the traditional, more aggressive depiction of the mage archetype.
The card featuring Vivi Ornitier, numbered 248, is part of the broader Final Fantasy trading card initiatives designed to catalog the extensive cast of characters across the long-running series. These collectibles are typically produced to celebrate the aesthetic legacy of the games, utilizing original key art to maintain continuity with the source material. Upon its release, the card became a staple for collectors of the series, valued for its representation of one of the franchise's most beloved and narratively significant characters.
