Vivi Ornitier // Vivi Ornitier

Vivi Ornitier, the iconic black mage from Final Fantasy IX, is captured here as part of the Final Fantasy Art Series, a curated collection celebrating the aesthetic evolution of the franchise. The character himself was designed by Toshiyuki Itahana, who sought to blend the classic, stoic appearance of the traditional black mage trope with a poignant, youthful vulnerability. His design, characterized by an oversized hat, glowing yellow eyes, and a weathered coat, was intended to evoke themes of existentialism and the search for identity.

This specific card, numbered 17 in the series, reflects the transition of Square Enix’s character art from late-1990s illustrative concepts to more refined, modern digital compositions. It serves as a tribute to Vivi’s enduring legacy as one of the most beloved characters in role-playing game history. The card was produced for fans who appreciate the intricate interplay between nostalgic fantasy character design and contemporary art-style collectibles.
