Where it came from
Vizier of Many Faces was originally printed in the Amonkhet set in 2017, designed as a blue shapeshifting creature that enters the battlefield as a copy of another creature with the ability to exert itself to return to its owner's hand. The card serves as a versatile utility piece for players looking to reuse enter-the-battlefield effects, drawing thematic inspiration from the Egyptian-influenced plane of Amonkhet and the concept of the shifting, illusory nature of the vizier caste under the rule of Nicol Bolas.
The version from the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander tokens and associated reprints reflects the card's enduring popularity in the Commander format. Its design, characterized by its flexible mana cost and persistent utility, has made it a recurring inclusion in blue-aligned decks. Like many modern Magic: The Gathering reprints, this specific iteration maintains the identity established by original illustrators while adapting to the visual branding of the Ravnica-themed expansion.
