Provenance

Where it came from

The Snake token, numbered 20 in the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2024 to support gameplay mechanics within the Ravnica-themed expansion. In Magic: The Gathering, tokens are utility cards generated by other spells or permanents during a match, and this specific iteration was designed to represent the creatures produced by various green-aligned cards in the commander decks released alongside the main set.

The visual design of this token draws upon the gothic, investigative aesthetic established for the Karlov Manor setting. Illustrators tasked with the token series aim to maintain a cohesive artistic language that aligns with the plane's unique architecture and thematic tone, ensuring the card is immediately recognizable as a functional game piece while grounding it firmly within the lore of the Ravnican metropolis.
