Where it came from
Void Winnower was originally introduced in the 2015 Magic: The Gathering expansion Battle for Zendikar. It was designed by the Wizards of the Coast development team to capture the alien, reality-warping essence of the Eldrazi—an ancient, incomprehensible race of cosmic entities—by introducing a unique rules interaction that prevents opponents from casting cards with even converted mana costs. The design is widely noted for its surreal flavor text and its disruptive mechanical impact on competitive play.
The Store Championship version, marked with collector number 32, serves as a promotional reprint issued to players who excelled in local-level tournament settings. These specialized versions typically feature updated, frame-specific aesthetics intended to reward loyal tournament participants. Within the broader community, the card is frequently discussed as a cult favorite due to its polarizing yet fascinating rules text, which often serves as a point of humorous consternation among players.
