Vulshok Battlegear was first printed in the Mirrodin block and later appeared as part of the 2011 Duel Decks: Venser vs. Koth release. This product was designed as a pre-constructed head-to-head experience, pitting Venser’s blue-aligned control strategies against Koth’s aggressive red-aligned tactics. The inclusion of the Battlegear in the Koth deck reinforces the theme of Mirrodin’s resilient inhabitants, providing a potent equipment piece that rewards a heavy reliance on red mana and combat prowess.

The artwork for this version was provided by Kevin Dobler, whose illustration emphasizes the brutal, industrial aesthetic of the Vulshok tribe native to the metal world of Mirrodin. Dobler’s design leans into the heavy, utilitarian nature of the equipment, utilizing rusted tones and sharp, jagged edges to convey its role as a weapon forged in the harsh environment of the Great Furnace. Within the context of the game, the card is recognized for its simple but effective ability to pump a creature's power and toughness, remaining a staple of mid-range artifact decks.
