Where it came from
Wall of Denial was first printed in the Alara Reborn expansion in 2009, designed to be a formidable defensive centerpiece within the Bant shard's signature aesthetic of armored fortifications and impenetrable shields. As a creature with the Defender ability and Shroud, it was crafted to act as a nearly immovable object, forcing opponents to rethink their offensive strategies in the fast-paced landscape of Magic: The Gathering.
The 2017 Modern Masters version features the original illustration by Dan Dos Santos, who captured the stoic, celestial nature of the construct. The card became a staple in various control archetypes throughout the years, and its inclusion in the 2017 set was intended to provide drafters and players with a reliable, high-value defensive utility piece that balanced the aggressive leanings of the set's environment.
