Where it came from
Wandering Champion was originally released in the 2015 Magic: The Gathering set Magic Origins, and was later included in the 2018 Ultimate Masters set as card number 42. It was designed as a white creature for the Jeskai way of life, reflecting a focus on efficiency and tactical combat. The art, created by Johannes Voss, depicts a monastic warrior in motion, capturing the theme of swiftness and discipline intrinsic to the set's martial flavor.
Ultimate Masters served as a curated compilation set intended to provide players with highly sought-after cards from the game's history, wrapped in premium packaging and featuring upgraded artwork for select pieces. The inclusion of Wandering Champion in this set highlighted its utility in specific draft environments and limited formats, where its ability to draw a card when attacking while the player controls a blue or red permanent made it a compelling choice for multi-color decks.
