Waterlogged Grove

Waterlogged Grove was introduced as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Doctor Who' Commander set, released in 2023. This collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and the long-running BBC science fiction series aimed to bridge the gap between traditional tabletop fantasy gaming and the iconic narrative universe of the Doctor. The card functions as a 'land' in the game, specifically designed to provide flexible utility by producing different colors of mana while allowing a player to draw a card in exchange for life, reflecting the strategic complexity found in both the game and the show.

The artwork for this specific iteration was crafted to capture the atmospheric, otherworldly settings often visited in the Doctor Who series. The design team sought to evoke the feeling of wandering through alien landscapes that are both beautiful and slightly foreboding. As part of a larger series of thematic land cards, it was received positively by players for its balance of gameplay utility and aesthetic integration into the 'Doctor Who' product line, serving as a functional staple for collectors interested in the crossover.
