Where it came from
Whisperer of the Wilds was originally released in the 2015 Fate Reforged set for Magic: The Gathering, designed as a green creature that taps to produce mana based on the power of the creatures you control. It fits into the 'Ferocious' mechanic introduced in the Khans of Tarkir block, which rewarded players for having creatures with power four or greater. The design focuses on the synergy between ramping resources and maintaining a board presence of high-power threats.
The Double Masters iteration, which features collector number 187, was released in 2020 as a reprint set curated for players interested in draft experiences and premium card acquisition. This version utilizes the original illustration by Magali Villeneuve, an artist highly regarded for her ability to render intricate textures and fantasy environments. The art style captures the ethereal connection between the druid and the wilderness, consistent with the thematic lore of the Sultai Brood and the shifting timelines of the Tarkir plane.
