Where it came from
Whispers of the Muse was originally released in the 1997 Tempest expansion, designed to evoke a theme of arcane knowledge and magical retrieval. The card allowed players to draw cards incrementally, reflecting the flavor of catching fleeting inspiration. Its mechanics established it as a staple for control-oriented decks of the era, where maintaining card advantage was paramount to victory.
The Timeshifted version, numbered 35 in the 2006 Time Spiral set, served as a deliberate homage to the game's history. Wizards of the Coast curated these cards to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the game, featuring the original 1997 art by Daren Bader while utilizing the distinct purple expansion symbol and modern frame borders to differentiate them from the initial printings.
