Where it came from
Wick's Patrol was released as part of the Bloomburrow set in 2024, a Magic: The Gathering expansion defined by its whimsical, anthropomorphic woodland setting. The card depicts a group of mouse warriors, fitting the set's thematic focus on small creatures occupying a world of giant natural threats and distinct animal societies. This card contributes to the set's 'Offspring' mechanic, which highlights the cooperative and familial nature of the dwellers in the Bloomburrow valley.
The art was provided by Jason Rainville, who captured the stoic, disciplined nature of the patrol amidst the lush, oversized flora characteristic of the plane. The design team intended for these cards to emphasize teamwork and tactical positioning, mirroring the communal survival strategies of mice in folklore. Upon release, it was well-received by players for its flavor and its utility in limited formats, where its mechanics reflect the industrious spirit of its illustrated subjects.
